A stone with a bloody creation tale of jealousy and love, Rose Quartz is one I would argue is the fairest of them all. The creation story of this love stone takes us all the way back to ancient Greece. Adonis, the god of plants and rebirth, was said to be so handsome that a woman’s heart would ignite with desire at just the sight of him. Adonis caught the eye of Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty, they soon fell in love and were inseparable. The ex-lover of Aphrodite, Ares, god of war, saw his chance for revenge against Adonis for taking Aphrodite from him when Adonis went hunting by himself. Ares disguised as a boar, attacked Adonis wounding him severely. Hearing Adonis's screams Aphrodite raced to his aid, tearing her clothing and skin on thorns. She tried treating his wounds with the nectar of the gods, but she had arrived too late.  It is said where the blood of Aphrodite touched the ground rose quartz was born and where the blood of Adonis, mixed with the nectar, soaked into the earth, the first red anemones grew. Another story says Cupid the Roman god of desire, and Eros, the Greek god of love, gave humans the gift of love in the form of Rose Quartz.
These days Rose Quartz is still used as a love stone, specifically working with the heart chakra to heal emotional trauma and open the heart to love. Notes: Rose Quartz is water safe, but its colour will fade with prolonged exposure to the sun. Rose Quartz isn't often faked as a raw or tumble stone, but as beads and jewelry it can be easily faked to the untrained eye as dyed glass. Most often you will come across enhanced rose quartz compared to fake rose quartz. What enhanced means is that the stone has been dyed to increase the vibrancy of the colour. When this happens you will be able to see at least very small, unusually bright pink veining in the Quartz.
